Our (CS:S) Game Servers suffered extreme lag spikes lasting 5+ seconds whenever the db was contacted for any reason, switching to a db available from the host fixed them. As long as I'm their customer this is no problem ... In case of that happening I'll need a globally accessible MySQL db like db4free but this issue is badly in the way.
